Garfield Smith – Technology & Data Lawyers assist BeyondMath to raise £1.5m to fast track its AI technology solutions-based business

Garfield Smith – Technology & Data Lawyers is delighted to announce that it has advised Cambridge-based AI physics simulation business BeyondMath, on its first funding round.

BeyondMath has raised nearly £1.5 million from an international group of investors comprising four funds. The investment was led by Californian-based mobility specialist, UP Partners. Also contributing were Budapest-based Garvey Asset Management, Creator Fund and ExFi (which supports ex-Google founders from across EMEA) as well as an angel investor.

The team at Garfield Smith – Technology & Data Lawyers was led from London by Garfield Smith and Amanda Sermon. UP Partners were advised by Silicon Valley-based Terence Desouza at Fenwick & West LLP.

Darren Garvey, co-founder of BeyondMath, said:

“We are delighted to be embarking on this next step in our BeyondMath journey. As neither Alan nor I have had experience of third-party investment, we relied heavily on the team at Garfield Smith in order to bring our first funding round to a successful conclusion. The legal advice from Garfield Smith was extremely commercially focused, which gave us the business confidence to drive the investment forward. We benefited from their support not only on all the legal aspects (including employee share schemes) but also on how to get the deal done in a way to maximize the outcomes for the company. We should also thank them for introducing us to Daniel Horner on the investment strategy/investor liaison side. He did a great job too. We are looking forward to working with them again.”

Garfield Smith, Managing Director of Garfield Smith – Technology & Data Lawyers, said:

“Amanda Sermon and I were delighted to assist Darren Garvey and Alan Patterson in their first step into third party investment for their innovative AI business. Enabling companies like BeyondMath to reach their potential is at the heart of what we do at Garfield Smith – Technology & Data Lawyers. We are confident that this will be the first of many funding rounds as, under Darren and Alan’s leadership, this technology business is clearly destined to change the world of AI physics simulation.”
